Ferdinand Bol (1616 – 1680) was a Dutch painter known for portraits and biblical paintings. He learnt to draw in his native town Dordrecht. In Amsterdam he entered Rembrandt's studio for further training. Bol’s style was originally similar to Rembrandt’s, but after he began to turn away from the influence of his master, adopting instead a more elegant and colorful manner.
